Professional Learning Network

I have compiled a list of helpful resources that I regularly use to aid my learning and practice. I use these resources for advice, instruction, and inspiration.

Images & Audio

Freepik.com

Offers what I would argue is the most extensive collection of images, icons, vectors and illustrations for any project. Offers unlimited downloads at a great price point.

Pixabay.com

This site has a great collection of free assets including images, illustrations, music and sound effects.

Unsplash.com

I believe this site is images only, however, they have a huge selection of 4k images.

Envato Elements

This site offers a huge selection of assets at a reasonable price and is a great place for design inspiration.

Bensound

Bensound offers a great selection of free and licensed music that I have used in numerous projects

Powerpoint Resources

Presentation Process

Ramgopal and Arte are a husband-and-wife team who host the Presentation Process Youtube channel. Their channel showcases a HUGE selection of creative Powerpoint design features, that they walk learners through how to recreate. The best part about their videos is the quality of their instruction. The end product always ends up turning out the way it should, because they do such a great job slowly walking you through each step of the design process.

eLearning Resources

Devlin Peck

I make use of Devlin Peck's YouTube channel on a daily basis. He has a HUGE selection of eLearning instructional videos. His videos have helped me learn some of the advanced features of Articulate and how to change image colors using Illustrator. He also has a ton of videos to help instructional designers make the transition into a professional role.

Tim Slade

Tim Slade is another guru that all Instructional Designers should connect with. His Youtube channel 'The eLearning Designer's Academy' is a great resource for all things related to design. He provides HIGH QUALITY instructional videos that teaches the foundations of instructional design. His videos include such things as how to storyboard, eLearning design, instructional design theory and approaches.

Cathy Moore

Cathy Moore's blog on action mapping changed my whole framework for instructional design. Her action mapping approach to training has specifically helped me in working with SME's. By approaching training with a specific business goal in mind and identifying what trainees should be able to 'do' through instruction, it has helped SME's to see the practical effects of the trainings I design.

Conferences

Devlearn

I recently attended the Devlearn conference in Las Vegas and would recommend it to anyone interested in Learning & Development. The sessions were extremely informative and also provided hands-on workshops for how to design in Articulate and other systems. The keynote speakers were wonderful and the expo showcased a ton of innovation in Learning & Development.

Community

Pedagog.Me (CU Denver Students Only)

This is a specific Slack channel for students who went through the LDT program at CU-Denver. If you are/were a student in this program, I highly recommend connecting with the group. This community of professionals have helped me numerous times with quick design questions, and it is also a great way to network. People post job opportunities, resources and articles.

The Learning Guild

The Learning Guild is a great resource for L & D professionals. Membership is free and they provide a TON of instructional materials such as articles, videos, and webinars. They also have a wide reach for networking opportunities.
